THE owner of a Moray hair salon is one of six industry names in the running to be crowned Scotland's top hairdresser.

Karen Thomson, owner of KAM Hair and Body Spa in Lossiemouth, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Scottish Hairdresser of the Year title at HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards.

Karen, who took the title back in 2018, is also celebrating 30 years in business this year.

The stylist said that to clinch the award again would be the perfect way to mark the milestone.

She said: "I’m delighted to be a finalist.

"It’s such an honour to be shortlisted alongside such incredible talent.

"I’m confident that my photographic collection showcases my skill-set and imagination and I really hope to bring the trophy home to Lossiemouth."

Karen was selected after submitting four photos demonstrating her hairdressing expertise, both in terms of technical skill and creative ability.

She will have to submit a further two images for the final round of judging, which takes place in October.

Jayne Lewis-Orr, executive director of HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, said: "These awards recognise the very best of British hairdressing talent, celebrating the passion, artistry and expertise of individuals from across the country.

"In reaching the finals, Karen has demonstrated that she is an accomplished and gifted stylist with an impeccable eye for detail.

"Every year, this competition gets tougher as the standard of entries improves and Karen should feel incredibly proud to be recognised at this level."

The awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional, are judged anonymously by more than 100 leading hairdressers, including celebrity stylists, session stylists, salon owners, previous winners and hall of fame members.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Grosvenor House, in London, on Monday, November 29.
