Lossie woman threatened to kill elderly mum

A MORAY woman drank alcohol and then threatened to kill her elderly mother in her own home, Elgin Sheriff Court this week.

Karen McCrimmon (44) pleaded guilty in court to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards her mother, by repeatedly shouting and swearing at her, uttering offensive remarks, repeatedly uttering threats to kill, and throwing items at 54 James Square on May 11 this year.

Depute fiscal Ian Warburton said McCrimmon, of 16 Fulmar Place in Lossiemouth, had visited her "elderly and infirm" mother at around 9.30am.

A carer came to the address later in the morning, and found McCrimmon in the house.

Noticing she was under the influence of alcohol, the carer said McCrimmon was initially "cheeky" to her mother. However, she said this descended into shouting and swearing.

Mr Warburton said it was clear to the carer that McCrimmon "was under some distress", which culminated in her stating that she wanted to sign herself into Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.

Mr Warburton said the carer phoned the police.

When officers arrived, they said McCrimmon’s mother was not in any apparent distress and there was no evidence of injury.

However, Mr Warburton said McCrimmon had been threatening to "kill her mum" and had thrown items around the living room.

Admitting the disturbance, McCrimmon was taken into custody.

McCrimmon’s solicitor Ian Cruickshank described the episode as "very unfortunate".

"She is remorseful for this incident, in particular because it related to her mother who she has attempted to assist in the care of," he said.

Mr Cruickshank said McCrimmon had a "number of issues" in her life at the time, and admitted that she overindulged in alcohol on the morning she visited her mother.

In deferring her sentence for six months, Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood also described the incident as a "very unfortunate situation".

"From what I understand from the report, after that initial behaviour you behaved properly," he added.
