MacMoray Festival will not return to Elgin after 2025 - with event set to go out with a bang

MACMORAY Festival will not be returning to Elgin after the Easter event in 2025.

The popular festival first took place at the town’s Cooper Park in April 2022, and has run every year since - with a special summer edition due to take place this August.

However, next Easter will be the final hurrah as the event draws to a close. Organiser Andy Macdonald is set to focus on his family - with daughter Macie due to be welcomed to the world in September.

Determined to go out on a high, Andy has confirmed that everyone that attends the MacMoray Summer Special festival - taking place on August 10 and 11 - will get a free ticket for next Easter’s event.

He said: “From the very first MacMoray Easter to the last, it has been the craziest journey.

“Putting on one of Scotland’s greatest independent festivals for nearly half a decade now has been absolutely exhausting.

“But it has been great organising multiple successful events and feeling like we have made lasting memories for not only attendees but also for our team and our acts, as well as having a huge impact on the local economy and community.

“Throughout my years in the entertainment industry, I have always strived to give back as much as possible.

“We will be giving everyone that comes to the Summer MacMoray a free ticket for MacMoray Easter 2025.

“Everyone coming to MacMoray Summer will also have the opportunity to upgrade and purchase VIP Easter tickets instead of their free tickets, at 50 per cent discount from this Friday (July 19).

“I realise that I’m unnecessarily giving away close to £1,000,000 in tickets but hey ho… the remaining two MacMorays will be absolutely incredible, and I wouldn’t be in a position to do this if it wasn’t for the amazing support we have received over the years.”

Andy added that, by Friday, July 19, everyone that has purchased tickets for the summer festival will be able to get their hands on free tickets for next Easter via ybdmusic.com

Andy experienced tragedy after the first MacMoray Festival in 2022 when his partner Sarah - who was carrying their unborn baby - passed away.

He vowed to continue the festival, and continue improving it, in her name and with the help of her family. Now with new partner Angela, Andy is set to become a father in September when Macie is welcomed to the world.

He added: “It is beyond me how I pulled it together (for the first MacMoray) and achieve such a brilliant festival and turnout.

“With each year, my priorities have shifted, and I know more than most how important the special things are in life, especially family and loved ones.

“I dedicated the past five years of my life to MacMoray and I’m satisfied with all we have accomplished, but I’m tired.

“I want to be there as much as possible for my daughter and my family.

“It’s been an absolutely incredible journey, watching an idea grow to such a scale…but all good things come to an end.

“From MacMoray being in memory of my first true love Sarah and our unborn child, both who sadly passed shortly after the first MacMoray, to now being able to find love in my new partner Angela, building a life together, and welcoming Macie Macdonald to our life around September 12.

“It has been the most ridiculous journey, and it will end on a massive high!”
