COUNCILLOR Marc Macrae has been reselected to contest the Fochabers-Lhanbryde ward for the Conservatives at the local government elections in May.

As Councillor Macrae is Chairman of the Moray Conservative and Unionist Association, Vice-Chairman Craig Stewart-Toner announced his reselection.

Mr Stewart-Toner said: “I’m really pleased to see Marc seeking re-election.

"He has proven on multiple occasions that his number one priority is his constituents and I hope to see him continue as a strong voice for Fochabers Lhanbryde residents.”

Councillor Macrae said that if returned on May 5 he would be a "strong advocate" for the ward.

“I am seeking re-election to the Fochabers Lhanbryde Ward as there is so much hard work yet to be completed," he continued.

"Five years seems a long time but the speed of the wheels of local government turn so slowly that there are no easy fixes to many of the long-term issues affecting us all here in Moray.

“It has been an honour to represent my home ward for the past five years and with the support of residents, I ask for the opportunity to continue as their strong voice in the council chamber.

“Local services are being hit year on year by cuts from the SNP government in Edinburgh. There is only so much that can be delivered with the funding received, yet that same government ask the council to provide more and more statutory services to the detriment of others. If they wish us to provide them then they should provide the means to do so.

“I have a track record of standing up for communities in Fochabers-Lhanbryde ward. In the last year alone I have helped to lead calls for Foths Bridge to be repaired, a success that resulted in it being reopened years ahead of schedule and finally got the council to take seriously the flood risks of the River Spey and coastal erosion at Garmouth and Kingston.

“If re-elected I will continue to be a strong advocate and community champion for residents and businesses, ensuring their voices are not just heard, but listened to.

“Unlike some other political parties, no-one in Edinburgh or London tells me what to do or say, my heart and soul are in representing the voices of Moray people and I cannot wait to get out and about to speak to residents about the issues they face daily.”

Local MP Douglas Ross endorsed Councillor Macrae’s reselection.

He commented: “Marc has a track record of delivering for Fochabers Lhanbryde.

"He led calls in Moray Council to bring forward the capital spend to fix Foths Bridge – resulting in its repair years before it was initially scheduled – as well as speaking up for Garmouth and Kingston residents affected by flooding from the River Spey and coastal erosion.

“As the former councillor for this area I can see the passion Marc has for Fochabers-Lhanbryde and his determination to ensure their voice is heard when decisions are taken in Moray Council.”
