A major supermarket chain is hoping to open a second store in Elgin.

By the year 2040, the Findrassie development in Elgin could include up to 1650 homes.

Barrat Homes and David Wilson Homes have already started construction on many properties and planning permission has been granted for more on the site in the north of the town.

Now, Tesco is looking to add a second location in Elgin within the new development.

Plans were initially submitted to Moray Council in September asking for the amalgamation of four new retail units which were going to be created on the site to house a Tesco Express store and a new dental practice.

However, 8to8 Dental have since identified another location at Victorian Crescent.

If consented, two commercial units could now be merged to create the new Tesco store adding to the supermarket’s existing Blackfriars Road location.

It will offer a more limited range of products compared to the larger store and, according to planning documents, “cater to quick top-up shops or smaller grocery needs”.
