Moray man (54) headbutted woman at supported living facility in Elgin after being told he couldn’t smoke
A man who pleaded guilty to four charges linked to two incidents including headbutting a woman at a supported living facility has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.
Elgin Sheriff Court heard that in the evening of February 27, 2023, Wayne Taylor entered the facility at Greyfriars Close, Elgin, demanding to have his phone given back after staff had taken it away.
After becoming aggressive, Taylor pushed one female staff member before repeatedly striking a male staff worker with his fist.
Taylor also struck the same staff member with his knee.
The 54-year-old is said to have then uttered abusive remarks labelling the male staff member an “Irish b*****d” and repeatedly striking the door to the staff room within the facility.
The ordeal lasted around 40 minutes before Taylor eventually calmed down.
In a separate incident on March 19, 2023, at around 9pm the court heard how Taylor, who was drunk at the time, headbutted a woman after being told he could not smoke a cigarette inside the premises.
He left the scene but was traced and arrested by police shortly after in relation to all offences.
Taylor was appearing before the court having recently served a custodial sentence for chasing paramedics away from his flat with a knife and attacking their ambulance with the crew locked inside during an incident in September 2024.
Sheriff David Harvie acknowledged that Taylor, described as having a learning disability, had found that spell in custody “very difficult”.
Sheriff Harvie said: “I understand that you are still having issues since your release but in the end it is up to you or you will be straight back to custody.”
Sheriff Harvie ordered Taylor to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work to be completed within four months.
He was also placed under a two-year supervision order.
