Montrose man who was caught drink-driving and gave police false name banned from roads
A man who was caught drink-driving by police and gave officers a false name has been banned from the roads.
William Rose (21) appeared at Banff Sheriff Court in connection with the incident.
Rose, of St Christopher’s Caravan Park, Brechin Road, Montrose, pleaded guilty to drink-driving on the A98 road at Crook O’ Ness Street, Macduff, on February 9 this year.
He had 93 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his breath which exceeded the limit of 22mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.
He also admitted providing false personal details to police with intent to pervert the course of justice.
Fiscal depute Anne Mann told the court the van Rose was driving was owned by one of his relatives.
Police stopped the vehicle due to the way it was being driven. The officers saw that Rose’s speech was slurred, his eyes were glazed and there was a smell of alcohol.
He gave his name as Andrew Rose but officers saw on his bank card that his name was William Rose.
He failed the roadside breath test and was taken to the police station where he gave the readings outlined in the charges.
Rose’s solicitor Stuart Beveridge said Rose had just had an argument with his wife and went out on a drive. The argument was so bad that Rose thought the couple would split up.
Mr Beveridge said his client accepts he gave officers a false name for a start as he had panicked realising he would be in trouble.
Sheriff Robert McDonald told Rose: “You find yourself in a precarious position as this is your second drink-driving conviction and you now have a conviction for perverting the course of justice.”
The sheriff disqualified Rose from driving for 40 months and fined him £1040.
