Elgin by-election sees Elaine Kirby chosen as Conservative candidate
Elaine Kirby has been selected as the Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate for the Elgin South by-election on Thursday, November 7.
The mum-of-seven is a marathon runner who lives locally and comes to politics with broad life experience. The 51-year-old worked in farming, finance and floristry among other fields, and can often be found walking her dog Bonnie along the Moray coastline.
She said: “My involvement in local groups has given me insight into the Elgin community’s grassroots concerns, and I want to bring common sense and pragmatism to local politics.
“I am standing for Moray Council because I want to make sure our area continues to be a great place to live, work and raise a family. Having done all of those things myself, I feel these experiences will stand me in very good stead in this ward.”
The by-election is taking place after the resignation of former councillor Graham Leadbitter who is now an MP.
Craig Stewart-Toner, Moray Conservatives’ chairman, said: “I’m delighted that members have chosen Elaine to be our candidate in Elgin City South. The Moray Conservatives have a brilliant team filled with great talent and Elaine is testament to that.
“We look forward to supporting her.”
Kathleen Robertson, the leader of Moray Council, said: "Elaine will add valuable experience to the council chamber and to our strong team of Scottish Conservative councillors, and I look forward to campaigning with her."
