Elgin man mugged drug dealer at knifepoint

A masked teenager who mugged a drug dealer at knifepoint in Elgin will be sentenced next month.

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald continued Jordan Carnegie's bail after calling for a background report, but warned the 19-year-old: "Assault and robbery with a knife normally carries a prison sentence."

Fiscal depute Alison Young stated that Carnegie had initially agreed to meet the second teenager at 5pm on February 5, but then phoned to say he couldn't make it.

The second teenager, who had a bag of cannabis to sell, later got another call from an unknown number to meet a buyer in Thunderton Place.

At that location Carnegie approached with his hood up and a ski mask so only his eyes showed. He then pulled out a knife and said: “Give me the bag.”

Carnegie was pushed away but ran off with a mobile phone which had been dropped. It was never recovered.

The defendant admitted charges of assault and robbery. He will reappear at Inverness Sheriff Court on October 29.
