A MORAY fast-food restaurant has completed a £130,000 investment, with a new dual-lane drive-thru scheduled to open tomorrow (Friday) afternoon.

McDonald’s staff are also gearing up for 24-hour opening, beginning a week from tomorrow, which will see the Linkwood Place restaurant open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Some 15 further full-time employees are being taken on to facilitate the changes, bringing the total number of employees at the Elgin site to 100.

Franchisee Craig Duncan said the investment was a vote of confidence in the business’s future and designed to meet the needs of customers.

“The dual lane system – the first of its type outside the Central Belt – will potentially halve the time it takes for customers to go through the drive-thru and get their food.

"This will effectively mean that we will be serving two cars at the same time, as opposed to one at a time, as we do at present. Everywhere it has been put in, customers have loved it; it is a lot faster and more personal,” he said.

McDonald’s opened in Elgin in 1998, with Mr Duncan and his family taking over operations in 2008. At that point, there were 36 people on the payroll, with staffing nearly trebling over the past five years. Preparations for 24-hour opening from November 8 are now nearing completion.
