Buckie Community Sports Hub project progress to take centre stage at public meeting tonight

Progress made to create a brand new community sports hub is to take centre stage at a public meeting tonight (Tuesday, June 3).

A bold joint venture between Welfare League side Buckie Rovers FC and Buckie Thistle Football Development (BTFD) is seeking to create a sports hub at Merson Park in Buckpool.

It is envisaged that this would transform the park, which includes a pavilion, into a facility for use by all kinds of clubs and groups in the town and surrounding area. This would include taking over ownership of the park - currently owned by Buckie Common Good Fund and run by Moray Council - by means of a Community Asset Transfer (CAT).

Following on from a consultation and drop-in session in March during which the public were asked for their ideas and suggestions as to the shape of the project, a further meeting will be held this evening in the community lounge at Buckie Community High School from 6.30pm to 8pm.

This will offer the opportunity to not only raise awareness of the initiative and to provide updates on progress made so far, while also allowing those attending to give their feedback. The hub team are keen to hear from people who would be interested in signing up as volunteers.

For more information and updates on the community sports hub, follow the project’s Facebook page.
