Moray darts tournament pays tribute to Elgin grandmother

A darts event is keeping the legacy of a fundraising grandmother alive nearly 20 years after her death.

The Jean Ross Memorial Darts event, held at the Elgin Ex-Services Club, raised £800 to be split between Macmillan and the British Heart Foundation.

Both charities received a £400 boost from the contest, which featured blind mixed doubles and a children’s tournament.

Jean Ross’s daughter Patricia Ross, who organised the event, said: “It was a good day, it was brilliant.

“It’s always a good day.”

Patricia handed the donations to Macmillan nurse Charlotte Mountain and Joanne Hewitt, manager of Elgin’s British Heart Foundation store, at the Ex-Services Club on Septembe.

Joanne, who also attended the tournament, said the annual event makes a “massive” difference.

She added that, in just six years, her charity has received around £2500 from the fundraiser.

“For us it’s massive, because if goes towards our research and trying to understand congenital heart difficulties,” Joanne said.

“It makes a huge contribution to our research, it’s great.”

The event was sponsored by Elgin firm C&R Taxis.
