Milne's Primary School's parent council receives donation from Asda Foundation

THE parent council at Milne's Primary has received a donation from the Asda Foundation that will go towards helping stage an event for the school's children.
The Fochabers school has received £835, which will cover a Covid-safe, back-to-school event for the kids – who have been starved of any such event for 18 months.
Milne's Primary Parent Council applied for the funding in spring and received it in summer.
Chairperson Chris Campbell, who has two children at the school, said: "The parent council usually supports the school with various in-person fundraising events but these couldn't happen due to Covid – so it is really handy to have Asda to be able to support us.
"Our idea is to have an event for the kids as they start to get back after Covid, to help them get back on track as there have been so many things they haven't been able to do over the last 18 months.
"The exact details are still being worked out, but it's going to involve and benefit all 190 pupils at the school, like an arts and crafts type thing. Something they can learn from, too."
The 175th anniversary of the formation of Milne's Free School is also approaching and will be celebrated at Milne's Primary.
Asda Foundation is an independent charity with more than 30 years of history helping people and grassroots organisations in local communities.
Asda Elgin community champion Kaye Macleod said: “We see the Asda Foundation as one of the many ways to give back to the communities that we serve.
"That’s why we lend a hand to the wide range of good causes helping to make a difference through a variety of projects locally.
“Supporting local groups that are on our doorstep like Milne's Primary Parent Council is really important to us – and we hope it will make a real difference within the local community in Fochabers."
Milne's Primary headteacher Kim Karam added: “We are delighted to receive a very generous grant from ASDA.
"It has been a challenging year for schools and we have not been able to do the usual fundraising. Donations, such as this, will allow us to organise some Covid-safe activities to mark our 175th anniversary coming up in November this year.
"We look forward to purchasing art materials and creating some exciting images of our beautiful school building. We hope that if everyone keeps following the guidance, we will be able to have more events by November. It will be nice to have something to celebrate and Asda has helped us to do that.
