THE minister for the linked charges of Findochty and Portknockie has been installed as Moderator of Moray Presbytery for 2021/22.

The Rev Dr Jaco Boonzaaier took on the role at Moray Presbytery's June meeting.

Dr Boonzaaier was born in Cape Town and studied chemical engineering before embarking on his theological studies.

Married to Moya, the couple have two adult daughters, Monique and Simoné.

His first charge was in Namibia, on the west coast of Southern Africa, where he was part of a three-minister team ministering to 1600 members.

His family then moved back to South Africa, where he completed his PhD (New Testament).

Over the next decade he served as a bi-vocational minister, working at a day job in engineering and business while being the minister of a charge that couldn't support one financially.

The family moved to the UK in January 2014.

Following a year of familiarisation in Stirling and a ministry in Broxburn, West Lothian, Dr Boonzaaier was inducted in November 2019 to the coastal charges.

Dr Boonzaaier said: "After 26 years of being a minister, God’s faithfulness is the thread woven in our life stories. Through easier and more challenging times, God's unwavering love and care have sustained us."
