FUNERAL director Jane Mason brings comfort to families in their time of loss.
She has been a sympathetic and supportive figure for more than 14 years in the Banff area.
That level of service saw her win the popular vote as Public Servant of the Year in the Moray and Banffshire Heroes awards - the second time she has won the award.
Said Jane: "To win the award once was amazing, but to win again leaves me speechless. Hundreds and hundreds of messages on social media and texts is just overwhelming.
"I’m grateful for all the families to think of me when they’re going through rough times."
Jane works with AD Walker Funeral Directors and thanked the Walker family, and in particular John Walker, and colleagues Alison and Colin.
"We are a team and without them the job would be impossible.
"I’m grateful to the Walker family for taking a chance on me all those years ago because back then a female funeral director was a no go.
"The most rewarding part of my job is carrying out the last wishes of the deceased and seeing the family get comfort from this."
Jane said it is a privilege to support families and pay respect to their loved ones.
The award was sponsored by William R Mair funeral directors.
Jane was unable to attend the awards ceremony at the Mansefield Hotel in Elgin last Thursday and her award was collected on her behalf by Rhea Stephen (9), from Macduff, who was also a winner on the night. It was presented by Annette MacDonald, business manager of William R Mair.
