Moray & Banffshire Heroes are crowned in Banff





Winners of the annual Moray & Banffshire Heroes have been announced in Banff.

The special celebration, organised by Highland News and Media, at the Banff Springs Hotel brought together unsung heroes from across the area.

More than 260 people saw HM Coastguard volunteer Graeme Gordon claim a glorious hat-trick of awards - collecting accolades for his work for the emergency services and as a volunteer before being crowned overall hero of heroes.

He is the station officer at Burghead where he has been a volunteer for more than 40 years. He’s also volunteered for the Red Cross.

An emotional evening of tears, laughter, entertainment, fabulous food and drink, and great camaraderie saw more than a dozen other awards handed out.

All the award winners were:

• Primary pupil: Emmy McBain

• Primary teacher: Caroline Ferguson

• Secondary pupil: Faith Wells

• Secondary teacher: Debbie Russell

• School: Findochty Primary School

• Volunteer: Graeme Gordon

• Healthcare: Shona Conlin

• Emergency services: Graeme Gordon

• Charitable organisation: Moray Mental Health Football Club

• Fundraiser: Emma Byrne

• Community champion: Tracy Gourlay

• Green hero: Allan Gray

• Carer: Elaine Robertson

• Hero of heroes: Graeme Gordon
