MEGAN Gordon will achieve a sporting dream come true when she boxes for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The 18-year-old, from Rothes, got the call this week that she had been selected as one of team female boxers to represent her country in the Gold Coast.

Megan made history last year when she became the first Scottish girl to compete in her sport at a Commonwealth competition when she was selected for the Youth games in the Bahamas in July.

She justified her place by winning a bronze medal, and will break new ground again in April as one of two Scottish female fighters to take part in the Commonwealth Games itself.

The news brought joy to Megan's dad Paul, who is head coach at Elgin Boxing Club and has trained her throughout her six years in the sport.

"He was just buzzing when I told him the news," she revealed. "He just came in and gave me this massive hug."

The news also brought a big smile to Elgin Boxing Club legend and current Boxing Scotland president Donald Campbell, who has served his sport for more than 60 years.

Campbell, who founded the Elgin club and is now honorary president and a regular at training sessions, was Scotland team manager at three Commonwealth Games as well as becoming a referee, judge and administrator in a lengthy career in boxing.

Megan's great sporting chance also meant missing out on a new career opportunity due to her Team Scotland commitments over the next three months.
