A NEW bus service has begun this week connecting Elgin with Aviemore during the summer.

The 39 bus is operating three return trips per day, and four on Saturdays until the last weekend in October.

In addition, the summer Sunday service between Dufftown and Elgin will return for the same period from this coming weekend onwards.

This bus will run every two hours following a successful trial last year.

Councillor Derek Ross has issued a 'use it or lose it' appeal.

Cllr Ross (Speyside Glenlivet/ Independent) said: "Many people have lobbied me about improving the bus services. In turn I've lobbied Stagecoach hard.

"We need to show them that a good bus service is vital for Speyside. It is a lifeline which can prevent people from becoming isolated. We also need buses to run after 6pm."
