Moray Council issues service update ahead of Storm Éowyn
Moray Council has issued a service update ahead of Storm Éowyn which is expected to bring very strong winds and widespread disruption on Friday and into early Saturday.
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for Moray between 1pm on Friday and 6am on Saturday.
The council says it has stepped up preparations following the upgraded weather warning issued.
Schools
All schools in Moray and early learning and childcare settings are due to open as normal but the council says any changes will be communicated directly to parents.
Updates will also appear on the local authority’s Service Status Portal .
Reporting issues
If roads or pathways become blocked with fallen trees during working hours, residents are being urged to use the report it tab on the Moray Council website.
The out of hours emergency line can be contacted on 03457565656 while housing related emergencies can be reported on 03001234566.
Power outages can be tracked and reported via the SSEN Powertrack app.
Staying safe in strong winds
While making service preparations for the storm, Moray Council has also shared the Met Office’s tips on staying safe.
That includes securing loose items around homes such as bins, plant pots and garden furniture.
Residents are being urged to avoid travelling but those who do should drive slowly, be aware of high sided vehicles such as caravans and giving cyclists, motorcyclists, lorries and buses more room than usual.
Locals and visitors are also being urged to avoid walking next to the coast in case of large waves and overtopping which may carry debris.
The council update added: “Being outside in high winds makes you more vulnerable to injury. Stay indoors as much as possible. If you do go out, try not to walk or shelter close to buildings and trees.
“Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly. When a weather warning is issued, stay up to date with the weather in your area.”
