Moray Council leader praises 'smooth' reopening of recycling centres

The reopening of Moray's four recycling centres has gone "remarkably smoothly", says the leader of the council.
Speaking during an online meeting of the local authority's Emergency Cabinet earlier today, Graham Leadbitter pointed to the problems being experienced in many other areas of the UK, then contrasted that with the situation in Moray.
The centres – at Chanonry in Elgin, Waterford in Forres, Gollachy in Buckie, and Keith – opened again on Monday after being forced to shut for nine weeks due to coronavirus.
A system is currently in operation under which households have to book a time to bring the recyclable items they have accumulated since the start of lockdown.
Strict social distancing measures are in operation at the four centres.
Cllr Leadbitter (Elgin South/SNP) said: "The waste management service have done an incredible job in getting the centres up and running – the logistics involved were very complex.
"I think most folk will have seen the stories in the press yesterday with the the queueing issues – miles of queues all over the country with people trying to get into waste recycling centres.
"In contrast, the booking centre which has been put in place at very short notice – we've had comments back about how easy it is.
"There have been no significant issues that I'm aware of. It seems to have gone very smoothly.
"That's a testament to the efforts put in by the local team."
