AN Indian restaurant which recently changed its name has been picked out as the best in the north of Scotland.

Panache, which is sited on Elgin's South Street, was recognised on Sunday at the annual Scotland Asian Restaurant Awards.

Over 70 Asian restaurants across Scotland were shortlisted through a series of public votes, to be narrowed down to just 16 winners, recognising the best Bangladeshi, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Malaysian, and Nepalese restaurants and takeaways in the country.

The event, hosted by BBC newreader Samantha Simmonds was held at Edinburgh's Sheraton Hotel.

Amongst the judges was Michelin Star chef and Chinese Masterchef winner Bill Poon.

Back in May at the 12th Scottish Curry Awards, when the restaurant was still known as Akash, it was named the best in North Scotland.
