A MORAY defibrillator has been relocated in a bid to help more in the community.
The defibrillator, which was previously located inside Craigellachie Hotel has been moved to Craigellachie Village Hall – where it will be located outside to make community access easier.
Several years ago, Aberlour and Speyside Rotary Club donated a defibrillator to the village, which was located inside Craigellachie Hotel.
Unfortunately, due to coronavirus, the hotel had to close its doors in the middle of March, which meant the defibrillator was locked inside.
With help and support from Keiran's Legacy, Craigellachie Village Council has been able to relocate the defibrillator from the hotel into a new secure steel cabinet, which has been hard-wired to the outside wall of the Craigellachie Village Hall.
New green signage is displayed on the external walls of the village hall, clearly showing the location of the defibrillator.
Anyone requiring the defibrillator should dial 999 from their own phone and the emergency service will provide you with the code to unlock the cabinet. The unit will then talk users through what they need to do to operate the defibrillator – no prior training is required.
Craigellachie Village Council, which is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the hall, football field, tennis courts and tennis pavilion, thanked Gordon and Sandra from Keiran's Legacy for donating the cabinet and supplying a new battery and pads for the defibrillator.
The village council also thanked Campbell and McHardy Electricians, who waived their fee for installing the cabinet, and the Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation and Berryburn Community Fund for providing funding to help cover costs of publicising the new location and provision of signage.
Keiran's legacy is a registered charity. Any other communities requiring help, either with getting a defibrillator or an outside box to get an existing defibrillator outside, can get in touch with them at keiranslegacy@outlook.com or www.keiranslegacy.co.uk.
Craigellachie Village Council added that it is vital more local residents become involved and support the local area – with those interested in joining urged to attend the council's annual general meeting, which is usually held towards the end of October or at the start of November.
