A MORAY health centre has been named as the best in the UK.

The team at Elgin Health Centre were crowned the UK General Practice of the Year during the General Practice Awards ceremony in London.

TV’s Dr Phil Hammond presented the gong to representatives of the team during a glitttering dinner held at the Hilton Park Lane hotel.

The Maryhill practice was also a finalist in the Looking after Long Term Conditions Category at the national event.

And in Edinburgh last week, it was named as a runner-up in the Practice Team of the Year category for the Royal College of General Practitioners (Scotland) event.

Meanwhile, the North East of Scotland RCGP Innovation award 2012, bagged for a second year running, has topped off a bumper 2012 for the Elgin practice.

Practice manager Eileen Rae, who was among representatives from all the teams at the practice who attended the London event, said they were thrilled when Maryhill was announced as the winner.
