A GROUP of Speyside youngsters have been busy all week writing and rehearsing a series of short dramas pieces to perform on Friday afternoon.
The United Nations' Convention on the Rights of the Child might not sound like an obvious subject for drama – but that's not giving enough credit to youthful imagination.
For instance, to illustrate article 35 of the convention – the right of every child not to be abducted – they hit on the idea of a musical featuring vampires. (In case you're wondering, the vampires were attempting to abduct a young person).
Stephanie Welby, from the Speyside Drama Group, has been helping to stage the free theatre workshop which has been running at Speyside Community since Monday.
She said: "They've been having a ball. The kids are very creative and everyone has been working so well together.
"They've created their own storylines, characters, scripts, props and costumes. They've also worked on filming, creating sounds and music with the aim of putting on a show at the end of the week.
"It's been great fun to watch things develop."
The workshop is a joint project set up by the youth engagement team at Moray council alongside Speyside Drama Group.
Also involved are In the Mix from Findhorn Bay Arts who yesterday made short film trailers of the three different dramas the children intend to perform.
The show will start on Friday at 2pm at Speyside Community Centre next to the high school in Aberlour.
