A MORAY man who threatened another man with a knife during a drug deal in Elgin has been given a six-month jail term.

John Geddes (38), who is already serving a sentence at HMP Inverness, appeared by video link at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted presenting a knife and threatening to kill a man near Elgin High Street on June 18 before robbing him.

Solicitor Stephen Carty said the man had arranged to meet Geddes, who wanted to purchase drugs.

Sheriff Margaret Neilson was told by depute fiscal David Morton that Geddes met the man in a car park off Elgin High Street. There, Geddes became aggressive and showed the man what was described as a kitchen knife and threatened to kill him.

The fiscal said Geddes took what was believed to be a small quantity of drugs or money before making off along the high street.

Solicitor Stephen Carty added that Geddes "has no intention" of carrying out the attack.

Geddes has spent three months on remand in relation to the case and is currently serving another sentence with a release date in March 2021.

Sheriff Neilson jailed Geddes for six months consecutive to his current sentence.
