A Moray man has admitted stabbing his victim in the face with a pair of scissors.

The attack took place while the victim, who required 11 stitches, was asleep on the sofa of a house in Elgin.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard earlier today that the second man woke up with lacerations to his face but no memory of how these injuries had been inflicted.

The police were informed and a search of the property in Forbes Court uncovered a pair of scissors with blood on the tips, fiscal depute Susan Love told Sheriff Elidh Macdonald.

The prosecutor added that subsequent forensic analysis found the victim's blood on the handles as well as the DNA of 24-year-old James Donald of Mid Street, Keith.

Donald admitted the assault to severe injury which occurred on November 4, 2020.

Sentence was deferred until August 16 for a background report and the defendant's bail was continued.
