MORAY MP and former RAF officer and campaigner Jimmy Jones have met Scotland's legal chief over a fatal RAF jet crash in 2012.
Three RAF Lossiemouth-based crewmen died in the tragedy on July 3, 2012, when two RAF Tornado jets collided over the Moray Firth.
Mr Jones has campaigned for years to secure a new investigation into the deaths of crewmen Squadron Leader Sam Bailey, and Flight Lieutenants Hywel Poole and Adam Sanders.
Conservative Douglas Ross and Mr Jones held two-hour discussions yesterday, Thursday, October 29, with Lord Advocate Dorothy Bain in Edinburgh.
Ms Bain, who was appointed in June, has given an undertaking to review all the evidence surrounding the mid-air Tornado jet collision.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Ross said: "The Lord Advocate was very generous with her time.
"She listened very carefully and asked many questions.
"She now intends to review all the evidence and I hope that, as a result, she will look favourably at launching a Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI)."
Two previous lord advocates have rejected pleas for an FAI into the air tragedy.
Mr Jones said: "This was the first time a Lord Advocate has agreed to meet me in person, and I am very grateful for the time she gave us, showing compassion, fairness and understanding.
"I was delighted that she will go away and look at all the evidence I have submitted over the years.
"I hope that this will result in a long-overdue FAI so that we can at last get answers for the families of Squadron Leader Sam Bailey, and Flight Lieutenants Hywel Poole and Adam Sanders."
