MORAY'S Conservative MP Douglas Ross has reiterated calls for Prime Minister Boris Johnson to resign if he attended a lockdown party and misled parliament.

Mr Johnson and his wife Carrie are alleged to have attended a garden party at Downing Street on May 20, 2020, at the height of coronavirus restrictions.

However, Mr Johnson has so far refused to confirm or deny whether he was in attendance – a stance which has drawn the wrath of Mr Ross.

"The anger we are seeing from across the country is understandable," Moray's MP and the Scottish Tory leader said. "People sacrificed so much to get on top of the pandemic.

"It meant living under the tightest of restrictions – we didn't see loved ones. At the same time, it seems people at 10 Downing Street were enjoying a party in the sunshine.

"Boris Johnson is so far failing to answer a basic question – he was either at the party or he wasn't at the party. He needs to come forward and tell people if he was there."

If he was at the party, Mr Ross went on to add, then Mr Johnson should resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

"It's a breach of the rules, he would have broken the law," Mr Ross added. "The UK Government, at the same time as the party, were telling people from a different room in 10 Downing Street to follow the rules.

"He cannot be the head of the government that's asking people to follow these rules and breaking them himself.

"I would not, in any way, support the Prime Minister if he attended that party."

Moray's SNP MSP Richard Lochhead made clear calls for Boris Johnson to resign as he stalls on giving an answer regarding the party.

He said: "Citizens across Moray and the UK made huge sacrifices and followed the rules in place to save lives and protect our NHS, but the Tory Party was flouting the rules and holding parties.

“It appears the Prime Minister was telling people what they should and shouldn’t do and then, in the same breath, having parties and breaking his own rules.

"It's beyond any doubt that the reported Downing Street parties were not out of the ordinary, but that they were repeat offences and a culture of rule-breaking and dishonesty dominates this corrupt Tory government.

“Boris Johnston and his morally bankrupt and elitist government has lost all authority and he has a duty to do the right thing and resign."
