MORAY'S Conservative MP Douglas Ross has vowed to work with "whoever emerges victorious" in the race to become the next Conservative leader.
Having started with 11 candidates, the race to become Tory leader – and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom – has reached the final two.
Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss will now go head to head, with Conservative Party members set to decide who the next PM will be. The winner will be announced on September 5.
Moray MP Douglas Ross has opted against publicly backing either candidate – instead saying he will work together with whoever wins.
“As Scottish Conservative leader, I will work with whoever emerges victorious from the vote by party members," he said.
"The next six weeks offer a chance for both Rishi and Liz to outline their policies and vision to the membership and I look forward to seeing that happen across the country, including at the Scottish hustings.
“I fully recognise that both of them bring extensive Cabinet service, particularly during some of the most challenging period’s in the country’s history, and either one of them are fully up to the task of being our next Prime Minister."
Mr Ross believes that the contest – which has so far included TV debates on Channel 4 and ITV – has shown that the Tories are the correct party to lead the UK forward.
He added: “This leadership contest has been full of robust debate and ideas and I would like to thank all my colleagues who put themselves forward to be the next Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister.
“This contest clearly showed that it is only the Conservative Party that has the talented individuals within it to truly represent all parts of our country."
