THE skirl of the pipes will accompany public applause when the second Clap for Carers takes place tonight.

Pipers throughout the UK and beyond are primed to play Scotland the Brave at 8pm tonight when people once again applaud frontline workers from their doorsteps.

The National Piping Centre called on pipers around the world this week to join the Pipe Up For Key Workers tribute to all those who are still working "to keep the country fed, cared for and safe".

The centre is urging all pipers to go into their gardens, stand at their front door or strike up in their living room – wherever they can play safely and still keep socially distant.

One young piper getting tuned up is Cassie Findlay (15), from Keith, a member of local traditional band The Country Quines.

Cassie has been playing the pipes for five years as a member of Strathisla Pipe Band, many of whom will also be warming up for the tribute.

Cassie said: "I think playing the pipes is a very unique kind of thing. It's very Scottish and it's a way to say thanks to all those workers in Scotland who are helping its people.

"Also, when you can't be with your friends this helps people to feel that they can still do things together."
