Moray school chef Jamie Campbell from Gordonstoun wins national award
A chef from Moray has been named employee of the year at Scotland’s School Foods Awards.
Jamie Campbell from Burghead was honoured for his work at Gordonstoun where he started work as a 16-year-old washing pots. Now double that age, he’s in charge of a kitchen team of 55 who provide daily meals for nearly 700 students and staff.
The ceremony was held at the Glasgow Academy last Thursday evening, with BBC presenter Kaye Adams handing over the trophy.
Jamie said: “Although the award was handed to me, it’s really very much a team thing. Without the team there’s absolutely no way I could do my job.
“I had no idea that the school had nominated me. Personally speaking, I really owe Gordonstoun a lot.
“We have a very loyal and hard-working group of people here who are very protective of the school.”
Gordonstoun achieved further distinction at the ceremony, winning the Wellbeing in Education category. In addition, Ross Burgess, its head chef and a former competitor in the TV series Masterchef:The Professionals, was highly commended.
