Moray shows the true spirit of Christmas

THE donations to our Moray and Grampian Christmas Toy and Food appeal continue to mount up as Moray shows the true spirit of the season.

The appeal has been going great since it was launched three weeks ago and there are still another two weeks to play your part in making Christmas a little brighter for many Moray families and individuals.

Items we are in particular need of are toiletries and other gift ideas for boys and girls aged 15 years and over.

Many youngsters are facing a bleaker Christmas than might otherwise have been expected due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

A number of people have lost their jobs or have been placed on longer term furlough, which has impacted on family incomes.

That means the need to think of others worse off than yourself has never been greater than now.

There are also many older people, perhaps living alone and with no close family nearby.

Local communities have been doing a wonderful job to support some of the vulnerable and an extra present or two on Christmas Day might just provide another boost to someone who is struggling.

Christmas won’t be the same this year due to the need to continue to supress the spread of the virus, but that doesn’t mean anybody has to go without.

The St Giles Centre in Elgin is the main drop-off point for donations until Friday, December 18, which is the final day for items to be handed in.

You can also buy gift vouchers and donate these to the appeal.

Moray Council’s social work department will identify individuals and families in need and ensure presents get delivered to them in time for December 25.

Asda Elgin, Tesco Elgin and Dr Gray’s Hospital are the other appeal partners
