Moray taxi fares – How much should you pay?

A consultation has begun regarding maximum fares for taxis operating within Moray.

Moray Council, as the licensing authority for taxi operators in the region, is required by law to review charges every 18-months.

Currently, the maximum fare is £3.96 for the first mile, then 33p for each additional tenth of a mile. It is proposed that fares remain at this level.

The maximum fare represents the highest amount an operator is allowed to charge, although they have the flexibility to charge less if they wish.

Councillor Paul McBain (Forres, Conservative), who chairs the licensing committee, said: “It’s important that we have a fare structure in place that works for both taxi operators and the public, and this consultation supports us in doing that.”

The consultation runs until Thursday, March 20, and follows an informal consultation with taxi operators carried out at the end of 2024.
