Buckie teenager admits attacking girl (17) outside Morrisons Daily store in Elgin

A young woman from Buckie has admitted to attacking a teenager outside a store in Elgin.

Chantel Reid, 19, appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court in connection with the incident, which took place at the Morrison Daily Store on Pansport Road at around 6.15pm on May 30, 2025.

The court heard that a 17-year-old female had noticed a group approaching and, due to a previous incident, believed she might be targeted.

She attempted to stay out of sight while her partner was inside the shop but Reid spotted her, gave chase, and attacked her by grabbing her by the hair, dragging her to the ground and repeatedly striking her on the body.

The court heard that the victim assumed the “foetal position” in an effort to protect herself as Reid continued to “crash down on her with both hands”.

Witnesses intervened and pulled Reid away.

Although the teenage victim was not injured, Reid fled the scene and could not initially be traced.

However, her mobile phone was later found at the location which helped police identify and arrest her.

When cautioned and charged, Reid reportedly told officers: “I’m sorry.”

Defence solicitor Grant Daglish said the incident stemmed from misplaced “loyalty to a friend,” adding that Reid recognised her behaviour was “unacceptable.”

She was placed on a structured deferred sentence and will return to Elgin Sheriff Court on April 23, 2026.
