Former Moray pub to be transformed into house two years on from ‘sad’ closure as plans are submitted to Moray Council

A Moray town’s “friendly wee pub” which closed more than two years ago could soon be transformed into a house under plans recently submitted to Moray Council.

The Harbour Bar in Buckie was closed by previous owner Laurent Sausset in April 2023 due to financial struggles.

A statement from Mr Sausset at the time read: “It’s with a lot of sadness and a broken heart that I have taken the decision to close the pub for a last time.

“The financial situation doesn’t allow me to continue anymore.

“It’s a part of my life which is going away and despite all the good memories I feel very sad to have to take this decision.”

Dating back to 1894, the pub was a popular watering hole for both locals and visitors alike.

Since its closure, it has remained largely in a state of disuse.

Its days as a pub look to be over, however, after plans were submitted to transform it into a house.

Applicant David Neil is hoping to retain as much of the external and internal features as possible.

A design statement for the proposal adds: “The building is split level with changes in heights throughout.

“There is a feature of timber panelling all through the building which the applicant prefers to keep.

“There are no real changes externally with only external doors being replaced and a window inserted where double doors exit on to the side of the building.”
