A PROGRAMME of free online summer activities has been launched to promote wellbeing in Moray.

Creative events, parenting tips and body positivity all form part of the summer programme, launched by Moray Wellbeing Hub CIC, which is designed to support locals of all ages during Covid-19 recovery this summer.

Heidi Tweedie, one of the directors at Elgin-based Moray Wellbeing Hub CIC, said: "As lockdown recovery progresses, many will be aware of experiencing new worries or feel they need updated skills to support those they love and care about.

"If you’ve not spoken to many people in person for some time, need to address your body confidence, or want to support your kids deal with this uncertain time, Moray Wellbeing Hub CIC have something for you."

Running until the end of July, the events lined up offer free opportunities for people to get the support they need delivered by people who know first-hand similar challenges through specific courses for under-nines, teenagers, parents and adults.

Creative sessions are available weekly with local artists like Fiona Percy with her "Textiles for Mental Health", and Saturday sessions for all ages in the "For Enjoyment: Creative Workshops Moray" slots each week.

Artist Fiona Percy will run "Textiles for Mental Health" sessions as part of Moray Wellbeing Hub CIC's summer programme.

Experienced peer-facilitator Chris Ritchie will be running the "Living Life to the Full" course and hopes the online version will reach more people.

Chris said: "The course has made a massive difference to my mental health over the years. Being able to run the CBT-based Living Life to the Full course this summer keeps me going in these challenging times too."

Anyone in Moray can sign up for the events. The aim is to provide supportive spaces that connect people or help them learn something new.

The hub's Discover Pathways to Wellbeing online tool has also been updated to include sections on "Connecting Families" and "From Harmful to Helpful Behaviours".

The hub has recently welcomed a host of new helpers on board – with more than 30 people joining to become peer-supporters in a fortnight.

Heidi said: "Since lockdown we have experienced a massive surge in new members – with over 30 people joining in one two-week period in June.

"To support them we will be running our vocational course in peer-support. It could even be the start of a new career for some."
