Edrington announced that it had reached an agreement to sell the brands in September last year citing a revised strategy to focus on “ultra-premium spirits”.

The Moray-founded firm boasts the world’s most-awarded single malt Scotch whisky in Glenfiddich as well as The Balvenie, Monkey Shoulder and Hendrick’s Gin.

The acquisition of The Famous Grouse and Naked Malt is a “historic moment” according to the business.

Søren Hagh, CEO of William Grant and Sons, said: “I am delighted to complete this acquisition and welcome The Famous Grouse into our portfolio.

“It is a remarkable Scottish brand with rich history and a strong market position in a number of countries.
