MORAY'S former MP has announced his hope of standing for election in Edinburgh Central in the 2021 Holyrood election.

Angus Robertson will seek the SNP nomination to fight for the Scottish Parliament constituency, currently represented by Ruth Davidson.

Ms Davidson, who took the seat from the SNP in 2016, is expected to stand down ahead of the 2021 vote.

Writing in the Edinburgh Evening news, the former party deputy leader said he grew up in the Edinburgh Central constituency, where he gained his secondary education.

It was there that he first became active in the SNP, going on to work in the Scottish Parliament for the first two years of devolution before serving as Moray's MP for 17 years.

During that time, Mr Robertson was the Westminster SNP leader and served as depute leader of the party.

Mr Roberson, who represented Moray from 2001 to 2017, lost his parliamentary seat to Conservative Douglas Ross in the June 2017 UK general election.
