Richard Lochhead is hailing the imminent reopening of the visitor centre at the Macallan Distillery as a boost for Speyside.

From tomorrow the £140million venue will be open again at weekends to visitors who have pre-booked.

Following a guided tour this week, the MSP praised the amount of work undertaken to make it safe for visitors to enjoy.

Mr Lochhead also highlighted how the distillery supports jobs as well as benefits many other local businesses.

He said: "It is incredible to think that 230 of my constituents now work there.

"Edrington’s massive investment in the estate is a huge boost for our local tourism sector, as well as the whisky production side of the business."

General manager Stuart Cassells showed the MSP around the facility and demonstrated the measures that have been put in place.

Mr Lochhead added: "This was a really valuable visit to a spectacular distillery.

"It gave me an insight into the comprehensive work that has been done to prepare the distillery to receive visitors in a Covid-safe environment.

"I am grateful to Stuart and his team for taking the time to demonstrate the very reassuring measures they have taken."

The Elchies Brasserie restaurant and café inside the distillery will also only be open at weekends initially, with pre-booking recommended due to the reduced capacity.

The distillery shop can be visited without the need to book. However only a limited number of people will be allowed inside at any one time.
