Moray Council's outgoing convener has spoken of the 'honour' of serving the local area.
Marc Macrae stepped down earlier today from the role to which he was appointed in the aftermath of the local elections in May
Cllr Macrae said: "To best support the administration of Moray Council and in light of continued unfounded allegations being distributed to a wide range of people I have taken the very difficult decision to step down as convener with immediate effect.
"It is important that these personal matters are taken out of the workplace to allow members and staff the focus that is required.
"In the short time since the election may I give my thanks every single employee of Moray Council for the work which is done daily to ensure the best levels of service are provided to all."
Cllr Macrae, who will continue to represent the Fochabers/Lhanbryde ward for the Conservatives, added: "It has been a tremendous honour to have represented the council in the role, even for a short period – an honour which can be no greater for someone born and brought up here.
"As a councillor I will continue to give my all to assist members in working hard to serve Moray, today, tomorrow and into the future, whatever the challenge we may face.
"With regard to the meeting of full council next week, I would like to nominate cllr Kathleen Robertson to stand in for me to chair the session, which would normally be chaired by the convener.
"I thank you again for all your help and assistance and look forward to continuing to work with you and all councillors to steer Moray forwards."
