More than 2000 new cases of coronavirus reported in Moray in the last week

MORE than 2000 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Moray within the last seven days.

A total of 2349 newly-confirmed cases takes the number of positive tests in the area since the outbreak started in March 2020 to 11,712.

This is the highest number of cases confirmed in a week since the outbreak began – up on the 953 confirmed in last week's update.

Meanwhile, a total of 1172 negative tests have been confirmed in the last week.

No death update has been provided yet this week – with Public Health Scotland's next update on deaths per local authority to come on January 7.

As of December 22, 60 coronavirus-related deaths have been confirmed in Moray.

Of the 60 to have died, 47 tested positive for virus and passed away within 28 days, while 13 had the virus mentioned on their death certificate.

Moray neighbourhood update

All of Moray's 24 'neighbourhood areas' confirmed at least nine cases of coronavirus between December 27 and January 2.

Elgin was again the worst-hit town in Moray with a total of 578 cases – up on the 179 recorded previously.

Meanwhile, there were 227 cases in Buckie, 205 in Lossiemouth, 150 in Keith and Fife Keith and 146 in Forres.

The other cases are as follows:

  • Burghead, Roseisle and Laich: 187
  • Heldon West, Fogwatt to Inchberry: 168
  • Rafford, Dallas, Dyke to Dava: 111
  • Cullen, Portknockie, Findochty, Drybridge and Berryhillock: 96
  • North Speyside: 89
  • Lhanbryde, Urquhart, Pitgavney and seaward: 76
  • Findhorn, Kinloss and Pluscarden Valley: 74
  • Rural Keith and Strathisla: 67
  • Mosstodloch, Portgordon and seaward: 50
  • South Speyside and the Cabrach: 45
  • Fochabers, Aultmore, Clochan and Ordiquish: 43

The number of people aged 12 plus in Moray to have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine is 71,307. This accounts for 84.8 per cent of the eligible population.

The number to have received one dose is 77,492 – or 92.1 per cent of those eligible.

In total, 55,744 people aged 12 plus have received a booster/third jab, accounting for 66.3 per cent of the eligible population.
