MP commits to standing for election in Aberdeenshire North and Moray East ward despite current hospitalisation
Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid has today reiterated his commitment to standing for election despite his current hospitalisation after serious illness that saw him in intensive care for four weeks in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The current MP for the Banff and Buchan ward, this will no longer be a constituency and is instead replaced by Aberdeenshire North and Moray East, a coastal strip which runs from Spey Bay in the west all the way to just south of Cruden Bay on the eastern coast.
In a statement posted on social media this afternoon Mr Duguid explained: “I want to share some personal news with you and I am sorry to have been out of touch for six weeks but as most of you will know I have been in hospital since April 11.
“Having spent four weeks in the Intensive Care Unit in ARI being treated for an illness affecting my spine (during which time I acquired pneumonia) I am now in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Glasgow to complete my recovery.”
He continued: “The snap election announcement has come as a surprise but it is my intention to stand again for Parliament and if elected I will continue to serve you all with the same commitment and dedication as always. In the meantime I would like to thank the elected colleagues who have stood in for me as required. And a very huge thank you to my office team who have ensured and will continue to ensure that it is business as usual in the service of the constituency. Thanks also to the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party, local activists and volunteers for their steadfast efforts to get me elected as the MP for Aberdeenshire North and Moray East.
“Finally and importantly, to everyone who has sent their well wishes and supported me during this time, I want to say a huge thank you. Your kindness means the world to me.”
