Run by Ocean Winds, the state-of-the-art 2000m² facility will service the Moray west wind farm which is currently under construction.

One of the guests at the opening ceremony, during which the First Minister unveiled a commemorative plaque, was local MSP Karen Adam.

Speaking after the ceremony, she said: “As the MSP for Banffshire and Buchan Coast, I am delighted to witness the opening of Ocean Winds' Operations and Maintenance base in Buckie.

“This development not only boosts Scotland’s renewable energy ambitions but also delivers tremendous benefits to our local community. It will create long-term, sustainable jobs, ensuring that local people play a central role in Scotland’s transition to clean energy. This is far more than just an energy project - it’s a community initiative that strengthens our economy and provides valuable opportunities for our people to work in cutting-edge industries.

“The collaboration between Ocean Winds, Buckie Harbour and local authorities showcases how partnership can drive real, lasting benefits for our region. With the facility supporting the Moray West wind farm, Buckie is set to become a hub of activity, creating up to 60 permanent jobs and significantly increasing vessel traffic at the harbour.

“This is a shining example of how Scotland’s renewable energy transition can directly benefit our local towns, fostering economic growth and providing new opportunities while advancing our climate goals.

“The transformation of Buckie Harbour over the past few years has been remarkable. I first stood here three years ago to discuss this project, and it’s incredible to see the change - the modern facilities and the vibrant business activity. It’s a wonderful feeling to see our harbour thriving, with food businesses and local enterprises already benefiting from the increased economic activity.

“This is a clear indication of what can be achieved when we invest in local infrastructure and work together to build a greener, more prosperous future for everyone in our region.”

She was joined in hailing the venture by Aberdeenshire North and Moray East MP Seamus Logan.

He said: "I'm delighted the First Minister came to Buckie to officially open Ocean Winds' new operations and maintenance base.

“It represents a significant investment in Buckie and will create 60 new jobs.

"While oil and gas still very much has its place as the world transitions to renewable energy, projects like the Moray West offshore windfarm are of vital importance and I wish the staff team there every success going forward."

The Moray West wind farm, which is due to come online next year, is set to produce enough electricity to power up to 1.33 million homes.
