AN MSP is urging Moray schools to join the UK-wide BIG Anti-Bullying Assembly next week.

The online assembly, on Monday, September 28, will be hosted by a star-studded cast of young celebrities. It is being supported by antibullyingpro.com from The Diana Award, an online resource centre for young people, parents and educators.

Shadow Education Minister Jamie Halcro Johnston said: "It is a grim fact that the lives of too many young people are scarred by the experience of being bullied.

"What should be a happy time in their lives is made one of anxiety and sadness because of unkindness and spiteful behaviour, and I know this can also be enormously upsetting for parents, friends and carers.

"However, there is help at hand from people who are passionate about promoting an anti-bullying culture and communities of kindness.

"And it is good to know that they have come together to facilitate the BIG Anti-Bullying Assembly which seeks to address this issue and get the message across in a way which will resonate with young people."

The Highlands and Islands MSP, whose constituency includes Moray, added: "I very much hope that as many primary schools as possible will take part on the 28th, here in my region and across the country.

"Talking about bullying as a school community is one of the best ways we can together stand up to bullying."
