Forres Theme Day Committee requires new blood to keep the event running at Grant Park
The organisers of a popular, free, summer event are appealing for help to keep it running for at least another three decades.
Classic car exhibition, Forres Theme Day, was cancelled this year due to a lack of volunteers, however, its committee hopes enough people will attend its AGM at Forres Community Centre on Wednesday, May 7 at 7pm to commit to next year’s arrangements.
Member, Lorna Dawson, confirmed any help will be much appreciated.
She said: “Forres Theme Day will take place again if we can get enough new members to help with planning and organisation, then assistance on the day. Any monies raised are donated to organisations in the local area.
“If you have an interest in older vehicles, you will enjoy being involved.”
Forres Theme Day was named because the event’s theme changed every year. However, this idea was dropped when it became too difficult to come up with new ones.
“The committee considered changing the name of the show,” remembered Lorna, “but we discovered that everyone was going to keep calling it Theme Day anyway so we decided to stick with it!”
At the same time, the annual gathering moved from the town centre to Grant Park.
“Grant Park is a beautiful setting and a real sun trap,” said Lorna. “The show has always been popular with vehicle enthusiasts … And everyone else as it’s the first event in the summer show season.
“Another reason for its enduring popularity is that spectators are allowed in free of charge and there are always a varied selection of stalls.”
The committee meets throughout the year to ensure planning is in place. For more information, email lorne.dawson1@btinternet.com or contact the Forres Theme Day Association Facebook group.
