A GRIEVING mother has appealed for the return of a special ornament taken from her son's graveside in Lossiemouth.

The Peterhead woman, who did not want to be named, visits Lossiemouth Cemetery, off Inchbroom Road, on the anniversary of her son's death every year.

Her son was lost at sea in 1983 aged just 19.

The mother said it was "very hurtful" that someone should take the graveside tribute, which was only placed there in April. She added: "You couldn't get any lower. It's the lowest of the low to pinch from a cemetery.

"It's so upsetting.

"All I want is the ornament put back. If the person who has taken it has any conscience – please put it back."

The mother chose the ornament of a young boy because his stance reminded her of her son as a youngster. The tribute, which was a considerable weight, had disappeared when the woman visited the graveside at the weekend.

The woman hopes that her appeal will prompt someone into returning the tribute to its rightful place.
