Music from 17th and 18th century Italy to be performed at Pluscarden Abbey

CHORAL music from 17th and 18th century Italy is set to be performed at Pluscarden Abbey.

Musick Fyne, under director D James Ross, recently celebrated their 40th anniversary.

For most of that 40-year period, the group have been performing annual choral concerts at the Moray abbey.

On Saturday, June 10, the Highland choral ensemble will return with a programme of music for voices and instrument from 17th and 18th century Italy.

Familiar music by Vivaldi rubs shoulders with a neglected masterpiece by Ciaia, and the programme features two soloists from the choir, soprano Aileen Cuthbert and alto Morag Ainslie.

The choral music will be interspersed with sympathetic instrumental music.

Admission programmes, priced at £10 each, go on sale at the door from 7pm with the concert getting under way at 8pm. All proceeds will go to the abbey’s charitable activities.

A spokesperson added: "We look forward to welcoming you to this wonderfully atmospheric venue for what promises to be a memorable and moving musical experience."
