The Sound of Music
MY favourite film over the festive season has to be The Sound of Music.
I saw it when it came out in 1965, more than once during a week long holiday with an elderly relative in Aberdeen and have loved it ever since.
Watching it is like wrapping myself up in a cosy blanket - it's just has so much feel good to it and such talent and I just love the songs - Edelweiss gives me the prickly feeling on the back of my neck. Mind you I still like to be distracted when they are among the gravestones and being searched out.
I have seen the live show a couple of times too and when the Christmas TV schedules come out I will be looking to see when it's on!

AN 80s Christmas classic with a fun spin on the novel A Christmas Carol.
A selfish TV exec, played by the legendary Bill Murray, is haunted by three spirits on Christmas Eve. They warn Murray that if he doesn't change his ways he'll die sad and alone.
In my opinion, the film provides enough laughs along the way without falling into the usual Christmas movie clichés to get even the staunchest of holiday sceptics among us into the festive spirit.
Suitable for the whole family, Scrooged is one of my all time favourites and has become a Christmas staple in the Malcolm household

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
I WAS stuck between picking one of It's A Wonderful Life, Scrooged and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation but I must admit that it is the latter that I always return to every festive season.
It was one of my favourites as a child, which is one of the main reasons, while there are also many aspects of the film that remind me of my 10 years living living in North America where lights on houses were huge and everyone drank eggnog..
In the words of my 12-year-old, Clark Griswold is a 'legend', and his well-intentioned and yet disastrous attempts to pull together a huge family Christmas crack me up every time.
It's just light-hearted, good fun and provides a real laugh for our family in the run-up to Christmas.
