They won gold for their Mexican Stack and Pork N Black Three Ways; and silver for their Beef Slice Sausage and Pork Corset.

The sausages and pork products were submitted for a grilling by the experts at an evaluation held at Forth Valley College, Alloa last month.

The results were announced at the Scottish Craft Butchers regional meeting held at the Laichmoray Hotel, Elgin.

The event, organised by the Scottish Craft Butchers was sponsored by Colin Hewitson (weighing and processing) and Dalziel, attracted more than 140 entries from sausage makers all over Scotland from Orkney to Solway.

Judges were drawn from meat industry experts and enthusiastic sausage aficionados.

Other local butchers which savoured success in the awards were A E Brown in Turriff which won silver for its Beef Slice Sausage and Chinese Plum Pork Stir Fry; and Gillies and Grant Artisan Butcher, also based in Turriff, which won gold for its Beef Slice Sausage.

Sponsor Colin Hewitson said: “Sliced Sausage is an iconic product here in Scotland.

“The Scots at home and abroad crave the taste and texture that it provides.

“The local butcher is the home of high quality sliced sausage with many distinctive recipes that we all enjoy.

“Whether on a roll or as part of a hearty breakfast we can all appreciate a great sliced sausage.

“We are proud to sponsor this evaluation and congratulations to all the award winners”

Danny Upson from sponsor Dalziel said: “We are genuinely thrilled to support such a distinguished butcher's product awards.

“The commitment to quality and innovation showcased here is nothing short of inspiring.

“Each entry reflects a passion for excellence, and we can’t wait to see who shines this year.”

George Jarron, president of the Scottish Craft Butchers, said: “All butchers think they make the best products but it is not until you pitch them against others that you find out just how good they really are.

“To win awards in this evaluation is a great honour for the recipients because the standards are high and by highlighting the best available this serves as an important signpost for sliced sausage lovers on the quest for the best.

“I know how important sausages are to customers and I hope that all recipients of awards attract new and repeat business.”
