Travel outwith Moray: NC500 issues advice for motorhomes and campervans
Motorhome and campervan users are being reminded of a list of dos and don'ts when travelling the North Coast 500 this summer.
The advice comes in the wake of isolated incidents last year where large vehicles were egged and even had their tyres slashed by upset locals.
Some of the key advice being issued by NC500 includes:
- Wild Camping does not apply to motorised vehicles including campervans and motorhomes. Anyone deciding not to stay at a formal campsite must ensure they are in an area that allows overnight parking.
- Drivers should be used to large vehicles and be able to safely reverse them down single track roads
- Scottish access rights do not apply to motor vehicles
- Never empty a chemical toilet anywhere other than in a designated area.
- Make sure the hire company demonstrates how to empty and maintain any on-board waste facilities
- If travelling below the speed limit, pull in to a layby or passing place to allow traffic to pass.
- Do not travel in convoy, especially on small roads as this can lead to congestion. Always travel at least one passing place apart.
Craig Mills, the operations director for North Coast 500, said: "Experiencing the route by motorhome or campervan has become a popular way for visitors to enjoy all that the North Highlands has to offer.
"However, it's important that these users are well prepared for their visit and follow the appropriate advice and guidance."
